Christmas Poems from the Heart

There was once a little fairy
That danced to and fro…
She loved the cold winter nights
and making toe prints on the snow.

She loved the dark night sky
And seeing her breath turn to mist…
The moon shining down on her golden hair
But there was something that she missed.

She wanted so much to be a star
A golden glowing light…
To sit up high on an evergreen tree
For someone's Christmas night.

She flitted though the sky
Going from window and door…
Watching all the people inside
Decorating from ceiling to floor.

Then she came upon one house
And it made her stay awhile…
And what she saw inside that house
Eventually made her smile.

There was no holly and tinsel,
There were no gifts to behold…
But there was a tiny little tree
They just brought in from the cold.

They decorated it with popcorn
and a colorful paper chain…
and handmade silver angels
and snow from the window pane.

But after their tree was finished
and the children were fast asleep…
The one thing fairy noticed
And it made her gently weep.

There was no golden star on top
There wasn't one for this tree…
And it made the fairy very sad
And she lost all of her glee.

And just then Santa bent over
And saw the little fairy's tear…
He looked into the window
And knew what would bring her cheer.

He picked her up and granted her wish
And set her on top of that tree…
And in an instant she was glowing
It was the perfect place to be.

The tots came down to peek
in the wee hours of the night…
And there upon that tree of green
Was a star shining ever so bright.

From his sleigh up in the sky
Santa watched this joyful sight…
Sleep well little tots, and fairy, too,
On this wonderful Christmas night.

OK, I'm into faires...and elves, wizards, dragons and all that. If you don't believe in fairies what is there to dream about?

If we could fly like fairy’s can, up there in the sky
Watching all the dew dry off with a watchful eye…
Then we could fly down to the grass and take a little rest…
And never be afraid to dream along with all the rest.
We’d dream of love and silly things and dragons’ tails and tales,
Smiling as we rode without a saddle on the snails.
And when the sunshine on our pointed ears awakens us from dreams,
Off we dash, fly away, our fairy wings now gleam.

We had a baby shower a few months ago for my sister in law. I was in charge of the invitations. I made them all by hand and this was the poem inside one of the designs. I thought it was pretty good.

For a Little Boy

Cowboys and Indians,
Army men too...
little red wagons
and a train or two.

Cars and trucks,
bugs and trees...
wearing out the denim
on your little knees.

Little Boys are special
on that we can all agree...
our little one will be here soon
for all of us to see!
This poem was written when a loved one in my family was in jail. I felt so heart-torn that I wrote it for her.
An Empty Room

The emptiness I feel inside,
is a dark never ending hole.
Something has taken her far away,
taken her and eaten her soul.

Eaten alive is painful and true
slow and ugly and sure.
Why did she look for this suicide?
Asked for it but not for a cure.

You may think the one I write about
is dead and cold in the ground.
But that's not true, she's still alive
In body and mind she's around.

An evil presence is in her now
a desire that is unknown to me.
That made her into someone else
An existence that just cannot be.

Her room is empty and quiet,
the walls cry out her name,
I want her back, safe and secure
Ever burnt from the evils flame.

I yearn for her safety and life,
each night I pray she'll return...
I want her back, happy and whole
From her maybe we could all learn.
This poem should actually be on my 'drug addiction' blog, but I thought I'd put all my poems on one blog. When you have kids, or if you do, you'll understand this poem better.
A Mother’s Love

A baby’s hand around your thumb
is a moment to cherish always,
You know your heart’s been taken
she has you the rest of your days.

Smiling at the wind, breeze blowing her hair
she reaches for things unknown.
That smile, those eyes, those tiny toes,
Hang onto it before she’s all grown.

Bottles and diapers, late nights awake
Rocking chair getting worn out…
These are times Mom’s would not trade
Even when she throws you a pout.

Scraped up knees, tears so true
as she begins to grow…
Trying to be so grown-up,
her independence shows.

School days come, off you go…
With tears, climb on the bus
our hearts just ache…there goes my girl...
They don’t mind though… it’s us!

Coughs and colds and chicken pox,
bikes and Barbies and friends.
Easter Bunny, Santa Claus,
And all the latest trends.

Bible school, Preschool, Girl Scouts, too.
On and on it goes each year
her sweet voice saying, I love you, Mom!
As you try to fight back the tears.

Then all of a sudden comes the day,
you find the baby’s gone
And what you have is a teenager
With boys, and cars and songs.

Football games and dances,
Long hours on the phone,
Pretty gowns and wrist corsage,
You find she’s never home.

When she had tiny little hands
and all she did was play,
All the sunshine in the world
warmed over you each day.

But if you aren’t looking she can disappear,
leaving in her place a shell,
here comes everything that you fear
and throws your world into hell.

The sparkle is gone, she smiles not at you,
She lies and cheats and steals.
Spends time with friends that are sneaky and shallow
And never says how she feels.

Her eyes are glassy, she slurs her words,
and stays out all night long.
She’s killing herself, taking you along
It’s so hard to still be strong.

The enemy that you cannot see
Is taking your beautiful child,
It picks her up and carries her away
To places that are ugly and vile.

She smiles at nothing, she’s dark and distant,
bitter and ugly and cold.
You try to see around what she’s doing
But it’s getting very old.

But you can’t give up, not now or ever,
You’ve come too far to turn back
Remember when she was a newborn,
and all the sleep that you lacked?

And the miles you put on that rocker,
And the blankie you looked everywhere for,
And her friends you loved like your own kids,
And you know that you would do more.

So take her hand while you still have the chance
and hold it really tight,
Pull her away from demons unseen,
that sneak up on you in the night.

Give her your love and walk the path,
even when she says no.
Be there until she finds her way,
through things that she doesn’t know.

Just like when she learned to walk
While hanging on to your thumb
Although she may have slipped from you,
Without her, you would be numb.

Be tough, be strong
and this too shall pass
with the blink of a babies eye.
I love my girls through all their mistakes
A Mother’s love will never die.
